Tony Ramirez's love for Paso Fino horses started as a child growing up in the hills of P.R. His mother, Carmelina Maysonet, was actually the horseman of the family, as were her ancestors. His uncles taught him a lot, too. Not by explaining word for word but by constant watching and doing; he had to put everything together himself.

Tony started shoeing at the early age of 14. He worked 10 years at no pay under a man in Brooklyn N.Y who was known to do "bad" horses, horses that no one else could shoe. Good handling was needed for this type of horse. He then worked on race horses, needing corrective shoeing because the angle on a hoof meant losing seconds in stride and not winning the race.

Tony and his wife Anita operated Tonita Paso Fino Horse Farm in Stamford, N.Y. for 8 years. In 1997, they moved their farm to Ocala, Florida.

The Ramirezes say "Paso Fino horses are our only business."
